Late Betting
Placing a bet after an event has already started. This is common in live betting, where odds change in real time based on what’s happening in the game or match.
Lay Down Misère
A poker term referring to a player folding a strong hand early, usually due to poor table position or fear of risk.
Lay Odds
Placing a bet where the opposing party stands to win more than their stake if successful.
Laying the Points
Wagering on the favorite by giving up a point spread.
Laying the Price
Betting on the favorite by offering money odds.
Layoff
A wager placed by a bookmaker with another bookmaker to offset potential losses and reduce risk.
Limit (Gambling term)
A game structure with a set cap on the amount that can be bet in each round.
Limit (Sports betting term)
The maximum wager a bookmaker accepts before adjusting the odds or point spread.
Linemaker
The individual responsible for establishing the initial and updated betting lines, also called an oddsmaker.
Lines
The betting odds provided to gamblers.

Lock

A gambling game, also called a lottery, where players or a machine pick numbers, winning prizes if their selections match those drawn randomly. Keno is a common online version.
Low Roller
A player who bets small amounts, as opposed to a high roller.
Lucky 15
A horse racing bet with four selections, comprising 15 total wagers: four singles, six doubles, four trebles, and one fourfold accumulator, requiring at least one winning selection for a return.
Lucky 31
A horse racing multiple bet with five selections, totaling 31 bets: five singles, ten doubles, ten trebles, five fourfolds, and one fivefold accumulator, needing at least one winner.
Lucky 63
A multiple bet, often in horse racing, with six selections and 63 wagers: six singles, fifteen doubles, twenty trebles, fifteen fourfolds, six fivefolds, and one sixfold accumulator, requiring just one winning selection.
